This 1/35 scale plastic model kit reproduces the German 21 cm Morser 18 heavy howitzer, presented as a detailed assembly project for display and reference collections.
Real-world background: The 21 cm Morser 18 was developed to replace the earlier 21 cm M16 family and used a dual-recoil carriage to lower peak emplacement forces. The mechanism pairs conventional barrel recoil in its cradle with a secondary recoil of the upper carriage across the main carriage, providing a steadier firing platform. Owing to its dimensions, the weapon was transported in separate loads and required an integral firing platform and spade supports for emplacement and limited traverse.
Model description: The kit models the large carriage arrangement and separate barrel trailer typical of the subject. Moulded plastic parts represent the carriage structure, spade and platform detailing, and wheel assemblies. One photo-etched detail part is included for enhanced realism. Careful assembly of many small parts and subassemblies is required to reach a refined display finish.
Build notes and display guidance: Plan subassemblies to simplify handling and painting on a subject of this scale. Trial-fitting the carriage-platform interfaces and barrel mount prior to final glue will help maintain correct alignment. The finished model makes a substantial display piece and is improved by groundwork that reflects the gun's emplacement practice.
An accurate and sizeable 1:35 representation of a historically significant heavy howitzer, intended for modellers seeking a display-ready artillery subject.
