The kit represents the Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft carrier Soryu in 1/700 scale, released by Fujimi within its Sea Way Model series, designated SWM-16.

Soryu was completed in the late 1930s and operated as a fleet carrier during early Pacific campaigns. Commissioned before the global conflict, she underwent changes to flight deck and air group arrangements in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The ship was lost at the Battle of Midway in 1942.

This kit provides an injection-molded hull and principal superstructure with parts split to depict pre-war and early-war configurations.
