German machine gun crews provided essential fire support within infantry formations during World War II, enabling sustained suppression and defensive fire. Typical crews included a commander, gunner, loader and ammunition handlers. Introduced in 1942, the MG42 was prized for its exceptionally high rate of fire and effective engagement range.
This Tamiya kit portrays the soldier responsible for transporting the MG42 tripod. It features an early-style Walther pistol holster and the option to build the figure with or without a helmet. The tripod breaks down into more than ten parts to capture fine detail, and the set includes decals and a display base so the figure can be combined with others to create realistic vignettes.
The sculpt reflects the 1936 field uniform with green collar accents used early in the conflict. Later in the war, uniform production shifted to the model 1940 all-green pattern to simplify manufacturing and improve concealment.
