The Tamiya 1/48 Heinkel He162 Salamander kit recreates a unique late-war German jet fighter. This compact model highlights the aircrafts unconventional layout and its jet propulsion, giving modellers a precise representation of an early operational jet design.
Referred to as the Volksjager or People fighter, the He162 was an early jet fighter that used the BMW003 turbojet. Developed rapidly in 1945, it saw limited production but remains notable for its engineering and historical context among aviation enthusiasts.
The kit faithfully replicates the He162s top-mounted BMW003 turbojet. The engine is produced as a separate assembly and can be positioned on the supplied dolly for display. Builders can choose to show open engine panels, pose the canopy open or closed, and remove the ejector seat to expose cockpit detail.
At 205mm overall length with a 149mm wingspan, the finished model offers a compact but detailed display piece. Included are a pilot figure and four marking options to personalise the model. Assembly calls for glue and standard modelling supplies.
