Tamiya 71108 Mechanical Rabbit - Hopping Robocraft Kit

The Tamiya 71108 Mechanical Rabbit is a compact Robocraft kit that emphasises visible mechanics and straightforward assembly. Its hopping mechanism and translucent components make it useful for examining how rotational motion converts to leg movement.

Design Notes

Semi-transparent parts expose the gearbox and linkages so you can follow the mechanism in action. The rabbit profile with long ears gives a pleasant display presence, and the combination of snap-fit parts and a few screws keeps the construction approachable.

Mechanism and Balance

The drive is supplied by one R03/AAA/UM4 battery (not included), with the motor and battery tray positioned forward to aid balance. Rear leg drives create the hop while front rollers support and guide the model during motion.

Display and Track Guidance

Attach the included guides to try the rabbit on Mini 4WD tracks, but for reliable performance operate it on even, low-friction surfaces. The model also serves well as a small moving display when not being raced.

Specifications

  • Total length: 115mm
  • Total weight: 95g (without batteries)
  • Body material: ABS resin
  • Includes gearbox and motor
  • Screwdriver included for assembly
  • Requires one R03/AAA/UM4 battery (sold separately)
  • Continuous running time with alkaline battery: 40 minutes
The kit is suitable for older children with supervision; younger builders may need help with small screws and aligning parts during assembly.
A rechargeable AAA cell will work provided the dimensions and voltage match R03/AAA/UM4 specifications, but expect run time differences compared to alkaline cells.
Choose flat, smooth floors or purpose-built low-friction tracks for the best hopping performance; rough or uneven ground can hinder the motion.
