The Tamiya 71119 Stag Beetle is a hands-on introduction to simple robotics for young hobbyists. Part of the Robocraft Series, this model encourages learning by doing, as builders follow assembly steps and watch moving parts operate. The transparent shell makes it simple to see internal components at work.
Two motors are housed in pre-assembled gearboxes to power forward and reverse plus left and right movement. The model is driven by a 2-stick, 2-channel transmitter with a self-neutral setting that eases control. The mouth assembly is tied to the leg linkages to create a realistic opening and closing motion, and the tooth positions inside the mouth can be reconfigured.
Assembly involves screws and the kit supplies a screwdriver to aid construction, helping young builders develop practical skills. The build provides clear examples of gearing and mechanical linkages. The kit needs two R6/AA/UM3 alkaline batteries which are sold separately.
