This kit is a 1/700 scale waterline plastic assembly portraying the Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft carrier Amagi, intended for display-minded modellers and collectors who build fleet or museum-style exhibits.
The vessel was initially laid down as a battlecruiser during Japan's naval expansion and later picked for conversion into an aircraft carrier under the Washington Naval Treaty. The hull suffered major damage in the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake and the conversion was not completed, though the project fed into later carrier development between the wars.
Presented in a waterline format, the kit concentrates on the visible silhouette and deck organisation. The parts set generally contains hull portions and superstructure components at 1/700 scale suitable for static presentation or use in dioramas. Injection-moulded polystyrene parts are designed for glue-and-paint construction; finer elements will need careful trimming, filing and painting to achieve neat joins and realistic finishes.
At this scale, important reference points include hull form, flight deck dimensions and major island features. Surface engraving accepts subtle weathering and layered paint for a convincing display. The waterline configuration simplifies mounting but excludes below-water hull detail.
This kit offers a historically based carrier subject in waterline form at 1/700 scale, suitable for collectors and modellers emphasising external detail and deck arrangement rather than submerged structure.
