Robust high-torque servo for large models

The Futaba S5050 is a 1/4 scale digital servo intended for radio-controlled models that require substantial torque for oversized control surfaces or heavy linkages.

This servo is suitable for RC airplanes, 1/5 scale gas cars and power boats where a single high-torque unit can substitute for dual servos on elevators or ailerons. Manufacturer highlights include metal gears, dual ball bearings, a 5-pole motor and dust- and water-resistant construction. The servo is fitted with a Futaba J male connector and is supplied with multiple horn options plus mounting hardware to accommodate typical installations.

Where a single, high-capacity servo is required for elevators, ailerons or heavy control surfaces, the S5050 offers a metal-gear digital alternative complete with mounting hardware and horn options to simplify fitting and trimming in large RC projects.

The S5050 uses a Futaba J male connector and is compatible with receivers that accept this connector type; confirm your receiver wiring and signal standards before connecting.
A Futaba J male connector with about 5 inches of wire is supplied. You can use a quality servo extension if more reach is required, taking care to avoid voltage drop across long thin leads under load.
To realise the listed torque figures, use a stable supply at the specified voltages (4.8V or 6.0V) with low internal resistance; consider a BEC or dedicated battery pack capable of delivering sufficient current for high-load conditions.
The kit includes four 2 x 11mm servo mounting screws and a 3 x 8mm servo horn screw to fit the supplied mounting pattern and horns.
The servo ships ready to use; routine checks are advised and only manufacturer-approved lubricants should be used if gear or bearing service is required to avoid damaging seals or components.
