The FM-2 Wildcat played an important part in naval aviation during World War II. Designed by Grumman and manufactured by General Motors Eastern Aircraft Division, the FM-2 used a lighter airframe and a more powerful engine, and its tall vertical tail countered the increased torque. This kit reflects those engineering differences in scale form.
Deployed largely from escort carriers in the Pacific, the FM-2 also carried out anti-submarine patrols and provided air support when required. The model makes a compact historical exhibit for enthusiasts focusing on carrier-borne aircraft.
At 1:48 scale the Hobby Boss FM-2 Wildcat kit includes crisp moulding and features like .50 caliber gun ports and attachments for bombs. The kit rewards careful assembly and paintwork, producing a convincing scale reproduction for display.
