The Grumman F8F Bearcat is notable as Grumman's last piston-engine carrier fighter, making its first flight in August 1944. It was driven by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, the same dependable design used on other Grumman fighters. With a very light airframe, the Bearcat achieved superior climb performance and agility, exceeding the Hellcat by around 30% in climb.
Hobby Boss presents this 1/48 scale kit with more than 90 parts, including a set of clear components for canopy and other see-through details. The moulding gives accurate fuselage and wing contours and a neat gear bay and cockpit area, which respond well to precise assembly and paintwork for scale presentation.
The Bearcat illustrates the culmination of piston-fighter design just before the jet era. Model builders can use this kit to study design choices from that transitional period and honour Grumman's engineering.
