Hobby Boss 1/48 PLAAF JJ-5 Collector Model

The Hobby Boss 1/48 PLAAF JJ-5 presents the two-seat trainer that evolved from the MiG-17 family. Incorporating design elements from the MiG-15UTI and J-5, the JJ-5 is represented here for modellers interested in Cold War era training aircraft.

Model Background and Key Features

Produced between 1968 and 1986 with over one thousand examples built, the Chengdu JJ-5 trained pilots of the People's Liberation Army Air Force and was supplied overseas as well. The assembled model measures 241.5 mm long with a 201.5 mm wingspan and includes optional flap positions plus a detailed engine section for accurate modelling.

Options for Detailing and Display

The kit allows for a range of paint schemes, including those associated with the Bayi Aerobatics Team and the PLAAF 4th Flying Academy. Comprising 125 light grey components and 8 clear parts for the canopy, it provides the parts needed for a precise, display-worthy finish.

Yes, the scale and level of detail make it a good candidate for a small diorama, especially with a simple airfield or maintenance scene to show off the open flaps or engine work.
There are 8 clear parts for the canopy. Protect them by masking before paint and store them separately until final assembly to avoid scratches.
Aftermarket seats, seatbelts and finer resin or photo-etched detail parts can enhance the cockpit and external detail if you seek a higher level of realism.
