The U.S. M3A1 White Scout Car entered service in 1938, intended for armoured and reconnaissance formations but proving more capable on roads than in rough terrain. For that reason it was rarely employed as a front line scout during World War II. Development trials produced variants such as the M3A1E1 with diesel power, the M3A1E2 with an armoured roof addition, and the M3A1E3 mounting a 37mm gun on a rotating pedestal.
Production of the M3 series reached roughly 21,000 units, many supplied to allies like the Soviet Union and Free French under Lend-Lease. After the war these vehicles saw further use in several armies, Israel among them. The M3A1 carried eight crew and sported a forward .50 cal M2 machine gun plus a pair of .30 cal 1917 Brownings at the rear mounted on a continuous skate rail to allow rapid repositioning of fire.
This Hobby Boss kit reproduces the M3A1 exterior and weapon supports with clear moulded detail. It is suited to modellers who enjoy careful assembly and authentic finish work. With accurate painting and finishing touches the completed model becomes a credible display piece for any WWII armour collection.
