The USS Arthur W. Radford DD-968, of the Spruance class, was optimised for anti-submarine operations and fleet escort roles. In service these destroyers ran on four General Electric LM-2500 gas turbines delivering about 80,000 shaft horsepower and speeds over 30 knots. Hobby Boss captures that operational essence in a compact, well scaled model kit.
With strengths in adaptability and onboard command capabilities, Spruance class ships played a role in major operations, including launching numerous Tomahawk cruise missiles during Operation Desert Storm. The kit allows modellers to engage with this history while building a tidy representation suited to display.
At 1:1250 scale the parts are moulded to preserve the vessel profile while keeping components manageable. Careful assembly and accurate paint choices will produce a smart display piece for a cabinet or study, and the finished model works well for both collectors and educators.
