The Grumman F9F Panther was a key step as Grumman's first jet fighter and the US Navy's second jet. It first flew in 1947 and was powered by the Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet, produced under licence by Pratt & Whitney as the J42. The engine's fuel consumption led to the adoption of wingtip tanks, a characteristic faithfully modelled in this 1/72 kit from Hobby Boss.
This static kit is made up of more than 90 parts with five clear pieces to represent canopy and glazing. With a length of 159.8 mm and a wingspan of 161 mm, the model maintains accurate scale proportions and includes decals for the US Navy camouflage finish.
Expect a satisfying build that rewards careful fitting and painting. Once complete, the F9F-2P provides a compact yet detailed display model suitable for shelves or small dioramas showcasing mid-20th century naval aviation.
