The Italeri 1/72 KA-6D Intruder model presents a faithful scale representation of a notable US Navy support aircraft. The A-6 series, designed by Grumman, entered service in the mid 1960s and became valued for its tough airframe and all-weather capability on carriers.

The tanker role and defining features

The KA-6D conversion, introduced around 1970, adapted the A-6 airframe into an aerial tanker. Key changes included an internal hose and reel refuelling unit plus additional underwing tanks. The kit captures these alterations so modellers can recreate a tanking Intruder.
