Originating from Bell Helicopter designs of the late 1960s, the AB 212 was also produced under licence by Agusta Westland as the AB-212. That Italian-built variant is known for its lengthened fuselage and twin Pratt & Whitney PT6T turbine configuration, which improved lifting and mission flexibility.
Through the early 2000s many AB 212s received combat support upgrades such as swivelling machine gun rigs, enhanced defensive systems including flare dispensers, and extra armour plating for crew survivability. These upgrades were seen in several theatres, including Afghanistan under ISAF from 2006 onwards.
Italeri's 1/48 kit reflects those operational details with precise moulding and parts suited to display modelling. The scale is convenient for adding fine paintwork and weathering to bring out the aircrafts character.
