1/48 Douglas P-70 Night Fighter Scale Reproduction

The Italeri 2724S model portrays the Douglas P-70, a night-fighter adaptation of the A-20 Havoc used in World War II. This kit emphasises the aircrafts night-fighting equipment and under-fuselage weaponry, making it appealing to those who recreate historical military aircraft.

The real P-70 was powered by twin Wright R-2600 Cyclone engines and achieved speeds over 500 km/h, underlining its operational role. The kit reproduces the characteristic glazed nose, radar installation and the set of four 20 mm cannons fitted under the fuselage.

Yes, many builders add aftermarket photo-etched parts or resin upgrades to refine cockpit fittings, control surfaces and landing gear for a more detailed finish.
A stand showing the aircraft in flight or a simple diorama of a wartime airfield both showcase the P-70 well; subtle weathering and period markings enhance realism.
