The Italeri 1/48 Fiat CR.42 reproduces a classic biplane fighter from the late 1930s. Evolving from the C.R.32, the CR.42 "Falco" used a mixed construction of alloy, steel and fabric and kept a fixed undercarriage and open cockpit. Its powerplant was the supercharged Fiat A.74 air-cooled radial, giving service speeds in the region of 400 km/h.
Deployed with the Corpo Aereo Italiano during the Battle of Britain, the CR.42 was noted more for its manoeuvrability than outright speed when matched against monoplanes such as the Hawker Hurricane. This kit captures the aircrafts distinctive lines and suits enthusiasts interested in WWII aviation history.
The Italeri kit provides detailed components that reward careful build technique. Small parts and optional rigging demand patience, but the result is a convincing 1/48 scale representation suitable for cabinet display or diorama work.
