Aluminium motor pinion upgrade for Mini-Z AWD tuning

This RC-scale aluminium motor pinion is designed for Mini-Z AWD cars as a replacement or upgrade to soft metal pinions. It provides reduced inertia and a robust contact surface so gear engagement remains consistent for repeatable performance.

Fitment and role: fitted to the motor shaft, the pinion works with the existing spur and gearbox pieces. Aluminium alters mass and stiffness compared with brass or steel, which changes acceleration characteristics and wear behaviour. Use this pinion when you want a lighter gearing option to tune acceleration and temperature response for track use.

Installation tips: clean the motor shaft and set screw area, verify axial and radial play after fitting, and check mesh with slow rotations before full-power runs. If your Mini-Z requires spacers or a set shim sequence, follow the original alignment to avoid excess load on teeth. Replace any worn fasteners and remove burrs from the spur gear.

Maintenance and tuning: inspect for tooth edge rounding and apply a light, gear-safe lubricant to the spur rather than heavy grease that attracts dust. Small tooth count changes can noticeably impact acceleration and top speed, so modify in single-tooth steps and test on similar track conditions.
