Pinion Mesh and Setup Guidance

This Yokomo YOKPG6431 pinion is a 31-tooth, 64-pitch component designed as a motor pinion replacement. The ultra-hard surface treatment is applied to resist wear while keeping accurate tooth geometry for dependable engagement with a matching spur gear.

Use only with 64-pitch spur gears and verify tooth count, bore and shaft compatibility before fitting. Avoid forcing parts together; correct seating and alignment help prevent premature wear and gear damage.

Setup recommendations: mount the pinion square to the motor shaft, secure using the original set screw or keyed retainer, and adjust gear mesh using the paper or feeler method to avoid binding or excessive backlash. Recheck the set screw and rotation smoothness after an initial run.

Tuning impact: altering pinion tooth count changes the final drive ratio and motor load. A 31T pinion will shift RPM depending on the spur gear used; make small changes when tuning and monitor motor temperature and drivetrain noise following adjustments.

Remark :
Due to limited stock availability, please notice that some Yokomo items may have to order from the factory and the ready time is around 4-6 weeks. Customer purchases the item is assumed to accept the waiting time which allows us to order directly from the manufacturer if the item is out of our warehouse.
Inspect the bore diameter and compare to the motor shaft, checking for a light, square fit. The pinion should slide on without heavy force and rotate true on the shaft.
Use a thin paper or feeler method to set a small clearance that prevents binding while keeping contact consistent; recheck after a short run to ensure nothing has shifted.
It can be used where 64-pitch spacing is appropriate, but verify that shaft fit, gear strength and cooling are suitable for heavy-load applications to avoid premature wear.
