Viper 977 EVO Redesigned for Circuit Control

The Serpent Viper 977 EVO represents a high level of refinement in 1/8 scale on-road cars, reflecting Serpent's long run of performance-focused designs. This iteration redefines handling and serviceability for demanding racers.

Engineered Chassis and Balance

The chassis is CNC-machined from 7075 T6 aerospace-quality aluminum to provide a reliable combination of rigidity and lightness. An adjustable flex architecture helps tune understeer and oversteer, while a carbon fiber radioplate with an aluminium mid-flex insert improves balance and steering precision.

Robust Drivetrain and Adjustable Geometry

The heart of the drivetrain is the two-speed SL8 XLi gearbox, designed for low inertia shifts and durability. The Centax true motion clutch ensures consistent power delivery during acceleration and corner exits.

Independent double wishbone suspension fitted with RCM hydraulic shock absorbers delivers a range of tuning options for camber, caster and toe, helping drivers tailor handling to tyre choice and circuit layout.

Practical Upgrades and Weight Saving

Key updates include a front bumper with removable inserts to alter airflow and a reinforced rear body mount with extra tuning positions. The revised, narrower front geometry aids sharper turn-in and the use of lightweight components reduces overall weight for better responsiveness.

The Viper 977 EVO is best suited to experienced racers seeking a flexible, serviceable platform with a focus on lap-time performance and setup control.

Experienced modellers should find the build detailed but straightforward, with clear areas for setup tuning. Allow time for careful assembly and final chassis alignment.
Narrowing the front track, adjusting front camber and using firmer front roll settings help sharpen turn-in. Test small changes incrementally to avoid overcorrection.
With proper engine selection, cooling and scheduled maintenance, the chassis and drivetrain can be set up for longer events. Keep spare parts and plan for clutch and gearbox inspections.
Regular checks should include shock oil and seals, clutch wear, gearbox condition and suspension bushings to ensure consistent performance and reliability.
