The Lotus Type 72D is remembered for its distinctive shape and race-winning pedigree. Tamiya's 1/12 rendition enables modellers to assemble the car that secured Emerson Fittipaldi's 1972 championship, with accurate proportioning and period detail suitable for display collections.
Side radiators and the wedge bodywork, combined with the Ford Cosworth DFV V8, defined the 72D's performance profile. The chassis used torsion bar suspension and inboard dampers to sharpen handling, and incremental updates during 1972 helped maintain the car's competitive edge.
The kit reproduces functional steering and moveable suspension elements, plus a detailed DFV engine with pipes and leads. Photo-etched components for the radiator and wing tips, metal seatbelt parts and synthetic rubber tyres enhance the realism of the finished model.
