When the Suzuki GSX1100S Katana premiered at the 1980 Cologne show it broke the mold with an edgy, angular profile. The design quickly earned a place in motorcycle history and remains a popular subject for scale modelling.
Designed by Hans A. Muth from West Germany, the Katana focused on aerodynamic lines and rider positioning. Details like rearward footpegs and a specially shaped tank were tested in wind tunnels to balance comfort and handling at speed.
The road-going Katana used an air-cooled 1075cc parallel four with Suzuki TSCC technology, producing around 111 horsepower and a top speed near 230 km/h. The scale kit aims to preserve those mechanical cues and visual proportions.
Tamiya's 1/12 kit presents finely detailed PS components that let builders recreate the Katana for display. The parts and instructions suit modellers who value authenticity and careful assembly.
