This 1/12 scale plastic assembly kit portrays the Yamaha YZR-M1 campaigned by the Monster Yamaha Tech3 squad in 2009, produced as a display-scale replica that highlights frame and engine detail.
The 2009 season saw the team alter its name when a new sponsor arrived, resulting in a predominantly black livery accented by white and fluorescent yellow graphics. Bridgestone was the exclusive tyre provider that year, prompting changes to the YZR-M1 chassis and setup. Colin Edwards adapted to the revised tyres and achieved consistent point finishes, including a standout second place at the British Grand Prix after a late-race move.
As a kit, the emphasis is on mechanical accuracy at display scale. The twin-tube delta box frame and the 800cc inline-4 engine are modelled as visible external components. The set includes synthetic rubber front and rear tyres and vinyl tubing to represent throttle, clutch, and brake lines. Side fairings and the fuel tank cover are designed to be removable after assembly for access. There are parts to depict the suspension in a compressed state, and Cartograph decals are provided to replicate the 2009 livery.
Suited to experienced modellers, this kit stresses external mechanical detail and accurate livery to create an exhibition-quality model.
