The Honda Monkey earned a loyal following due to its compact layout and distinctive looks, first arriving in 1967 with a 50cc air-cooled engine housed in a red frame. Its folding handlebars and seat made it easy to transport and store, and improvements such as enhanced suspension and larger wheels kept the model relevant to riders.
In December 2006 Honda released a 40th anniversary special with features like red wheels, a black fuel tank and a checkered seat cover. Tamiya's 1/6 scale model kit reproduces that special edition so hobbyists can build a faithful miniature tribute.
The kit recreates the anniversary styling with vinyl decals for the checkered seat pattern and metal-plated parts for accents such as the muffler protector and handlebars. Emblems for the fuel tank and side covers are separately moulded to improve authenticity.
Working suspension using metal damper springs and foldable handlebars reflect the real bike's functional design. The 50cc engine is rendered with accurate detailing, including vinyl tubing for realistic hosework, and alternate muffler and damper options are provided for customisation.
