Tamiya 18720 K4 Tasche: vintage truck charm on an FM-A platform

The Tamiya 18720 K4 Tasche pairs old school pickup styling with a modern Mini 4WD chassis. Its characterful bodywork is matched to an FM-A layout that gives straightforward handling and easy access for tuning.

Appearance and wheel choice

The two-piece body in light green reproduces classic truck lines while allowing neat paint work. Dish-style ivory wheels reinforce the retro look and the super hard, low-profile black tyres keep resistance down for predictable lap times.

Handling traits of the FM-A chassis

The front motor FM-A setup shifts weight forward for stability over crests and on approach to chicanes. Low-friction front skid bars plus a mix of small rollers and 8mm rear rollers help maintain rhythm through successive corners.

Customising for different surfaces

The kit includes a Type 130 motor and a 3.5:1 gear train, and the chassis lends itself to quick swaps. Common customisation steps are trying different tyre compounds, changing roller materials for less friction, and fitting a motor tuned for either torque or top end depending on the circuit.

Specifications

  • Chassis Type: FM-A
  • Body Style: Vintage Truck
  • Wheel Type: Low-Profile, Super Hard
  • Gear Ratio: 3.5:1
  • Motor Compatibility: Type 130 Single Shaft

For enthusiasts who like period styling with a tunable chassis, the Tamiya 18720 K4 Tasche offers a solid balance of looks and race day adjustability.

Ordered quite a lot of stuff from these guys & the packaging & condition of the items delivered was excellent. The service is second to none & I will definitely buy from these again.
Basic modelling tools such as hobby knives, side cutters and fine screwdrivers are sufficient. A small file and sanding paper help finish edges after trimming the body parts.
Verify roller alignment, ensure screws are tight but not overtightened, confirm motor and gears run freely, and test tyre choice on a practice lap to check grip levels.
The FM-A chassis offers a balance that suits both technical sections and speed runs, though specific tuning to roller setup and tyre compound will optimise performance for each track type.
The completed model measures 144mm by 97mm by 64mm. These dimensions are typical for Mini 4WD kits but always check event rules if there are strict size limits.
