The Lotus Type 79 of 1978, often referred to as the "Black Beauty", is an influential F1 design that exploited ground effect aerodynamics. Driven by Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson, it achieved notable race success and shaped the technical direction of late 1970s Formula 1 cars.
This Tamiya 1/20 scale kit provides parts to assemble a scale-accurate representation of the Type 79. Finished dimensions are 220mm long and 108mm wide, reflecting the car's compact, aerodynamically optimised profile. The front and rear cowlings are removable so the cockpit, engine and suspension can be displayed.
The model reproduces the characteristic undersurface of the side pontoons that helped generate downforce on the original. Metal air funnel covers and rubber tyres are included to boost authenticity. Two decal choices allow you to model car No.5 or No.6, and alternate roll bars and air outlet parts let you reflect the British or German Grand Prix setups.
