The Lotus 78 marked a step-change in Grand Prix engineering with its ground-effect principles and slim monocoque with side pontoons. In the 1977 season Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson campaigned the car with notable success, and it became a reference point for later designs.
Tamiya's 1/20 model faithfully reproduces the Lotus 78's low stance and Team Lotus gloss black finish, including the No.5 race markings. The model exhibits the DFV engine, transmission and suspension in detailed form to satisfy collectors seeking accuracy.
Included photo-etched parts add fine realism to wing tips and seatbelt fittings while metal transfers render mirror surfaces. The model sits on authentic rubber tyres and is supplied with a presentation base and clear case to complete a display-quality item.
