The Tamiya 24049 kit presents a 1/24 scale model of the Newman Porsche 956, the car that won the 1984 Le Mans 24 Hours. The kit reflects Joest Racing's race configuration and includes a detailed depiction of the 6-cylinder boxer engine with DOHC 4-valve turbocharging.

The set contains parts to recreate the New Man yellow, black and white livery and reproduces the monocoque chassis and front and rear double wishbone suspension. Synthetic rubber tyres and decals for No.7 and No.8 are supplied to complete an accurate collector model.
