The Tamiya 1/24 Porsche 959 model kit allows enthusiasts to build an accurate miniature of one of the 1980s most advanced supercars. Launched at the 1983 Frankfurt Auto Show, the 959 combined sophisticated race engineering with road refinement. This kit mirrors the cars competition and road heritage, including appearances in rallying and endurance events.
The Porsche 959 was powered by a 2848cc flat-six featuring both air and liquid cooling, DOHC cylinder heads and twin turbochargers, allowing speeds above 300 km/h while retaining usable handling. Tamiya translates these technical aspects into detailed scale components for model builders.
Components are supplied on sprue trees, molded mainly in silver, with separate clear elements for windows. The build includes full engine detail, faithful suspension parts and interior fittings, steerable front wheels and a rear spoiler. Hollow wheel spokes and low-profile tyre shapes are modelled to improve display authenticity.
