The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren combines F1-influenced engineering with luxury car styling. Debuted at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, it was created through collaboration between McLaren Cars and DaimlerChrysler and features a front-mounted AMG-tuned 5.5L V8 with a screw-type supercharger delivering about 626 horsepower. A 5-speed automatic transmission manages the output while carbon-ceramic brakes and an active rear spoiler aid performance and braking.
Tamiya's 1/24 scale kit reproduces the SLR's long nose and technical detailing. It includes a detailed cabin and engine compartment, with functional gull-wing doors and a two-stage bonnet so builders can reveal the model's internal elements for close inspection.
The kit reproduces hallmark SLR features like the bonnet fin and slotted fenders as individual pieces for accuracy. The cabin is modelled with intricate seats and controls, and metal-finish parts plus transfers improve realism. Movable sections let modellers present the car in a number of display configurations.
As part of a Tamiya supercar collection, the SLR stands out as an example of engineering-led design in miniature.
