The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is widely regarded as a standout of 1950s sports car design. Developed from racing prototypes and unveiled at the 1954 International Motor Show in New York, it won attention for its 3.0 litre engine and dramatic gullwing doors. Production was limited to about 1,400 cars by 1957, making original examples highly prized.
Tamiya's 1/24 kit captures the 300 SL's key characteristics. The model provides operable gullwing doors and an opening bonnet to display a detailed engine bay. Metal-plated transfers and updated tyre parts increase authenticity, while the representation of the tubular space frame mirrors the original car's structure for a convincing display model.
