Introduced in August 1984, the M1A1 Abrams began service with a 105mm main gun before later receiving the 120mm smoothbore armament. Combined with an advanced fire control system and a 1,500hp gas turbine engine, the platform proved highly effective in the 1991 Gulf War against T-72 style tanks.
In 2023 the US committed to supplying roughly thirty M1A1 tanks to Ukraine, demonstrating the chassis longevity. Tamiya's 1/35 scale model reflects that pedigree with accurate surface detail and assembly-focused engineering.
The kit reproduces the Abrams flat armour profile and the imposing 120mm smoothbore gun. Engine bay grilles and weld line details are modelled to enhance realism, and supplied nylon mesh recreates the turret rack cover texture.
Decals let you portray the tanks as delivered to Ukraine, offering a historically grounded finish. Belt-type tracks and included photo-etched parts increase fidelity, making this kit suitable for display or diorama projects.
