The Ohsumi class multipurpose transports form a practical backbone to JMSDF logistic operations. The LST-4002 Shimokita is prominent for its load handling and seaworthy hull. Tamiya's 1/700 kit replicates the ship so modellers can present a compact yet faithful representation of the vessel.
Shimokita was launched on November 29, 2000, and has one of the longer hulls in the JMSDF. The flared armored deck aids cargo operations and contributes to the ship's distinctive silhouette. Tamiya includes detailed parts for the elevator, the well-dock and the central gate, plus two well-formed LCAC hovercraft to increase authenticity.
Transparent elements are used for the armoured flight and vehicle decks so internal features remain visible after construction. The kit supplies CH-47 and SH-60J helicopter models, tanks and small military vehicles, larger trucks, anti-aircraft mounts, self-propelled guns and in excess of 50 miniature vehicles. A small missile launcher is also included to enrich deck fittings.
