The IJN Battleship Yamato is widely noted for its size and armour, launched in August 1940 from Kure. Conceived to surpass treaty-imposed limits, Yamato combined massive guns and a large hull form. Tamiya's 1/700 waterline kit captures the ship's essential silhouette and construction details for modellers.
Initial planning began in 1934, driven by the desire to overcome constraints of the 1922 Washington Naval Treaty. The ship featured enormous 46cm gun turrets and represented the largest battleship built. This kit renders those signature aspects in scale, emphasising the vessel's armament and profile.
The Tamiya 31113 set contains finely moulded grey and red plastic parts with clear pieces for transparent fittings. Main guns, a crane and a flag are included, plus float planes supplied for assembly. Lifeboats come in the box and a metal element is provided to assist flotation for waterline displays.
The finished model is suitable for cabinet display and fleet groupings, offering a compact way to present Yamato alongside other scale warships while maintaining accurate proportions and surface detail.
