Agano-class light cruiser Yahagi 1/700

The Yahagi was an Agano-class Japanese light cruiser, begun in 1939 and completed in December 1943. She served in significant naval engagements, including the Battle of the Philippine Sea, and later operated with the battleship Yamato during the Okinawa operation. This Tamiya 31315 kit models distinguishing elements such as the twin quadruple torpedo launchers and the additional anti-aircraft weapons fitted near the end of her service.

Key features and realism

This 1/700 scale kit builds to a finished length of 247mm and presents detailed exterior surfaces suitable for museum-style display. The parts reflect the ship's historical armament layout and the inclusion of metal components aids display stability and realism. Waterslide decals and clear pictorial instructions help makers complete the model to a high standard.

The kit captures the major external features and armament positions of the Yahagi at 1/700 scale. It is suitable for historical displays and complements other ships in the same scale.
For finer detail, modelers may add aftermarket photo-etched parts or fine brass rigging. The kit stands well on its own but upgrades can enhance close-up realism.
A flat or satin varnish over painted surfaces reproduces the naval finish convincingly. Use a fine brush or airbrush for deck and hull panels to keep panel lines and small fittings crisp.
