The Tamiya 1/700 IJN Destroyer Matsu reproduces the Tei Type destroyer concept, a wartime response to fleet losses that emphasised simple, rapid construction. Matsu was completed in April 1944 and embodied the pared-down design approach used to maintain production rates.
The kit reflects class-specific features such as the second funnel offset to starboard, the main gun positions and multiple 25mm anti-aircraft mounts installed as the conflict progressed. These elements give the model its characteristic silhouette.
Finished at 143mm in length, the kit offers finely moulded components, a metal flotation aid, waterslide decals and clear pictorial steps. It is well suited to modellers focusing on historical accuracy and compact fleet displays.
