The Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. B was a turretless assault gun built on the Panzer III platform and fitted with a 75mm L24 short gun in a fixed casemate. Its low profile and intended role as close support made it a common subject for wartime field operations and later modelling projects.
The Ausf. B was the earliest mass-production variant, with production beginning in June 1940 and over 250 units constructed. It served in early campaigns such as the Balkans and the initial stages of the invasion of the Soviet Union, appreciated for its practicality and firepower.
Tamiya's attention to moulding detail is clear in this 1/48 kit, which includes a die-cast lower hull to improve heft and realism. The kit requires glue for assembly, and the supplied decal choices let modellers recreate distinct field markings for museum-style or wargame display.
