The Tamiya 1/48 US Modern 4x4 Utility Vehicle - Cargo Type is a compact, well-detailed model representing the US utility truck used from the late 1970s. It replaced older designs like the M151 MUTT and saw action in locations such as Panama in 1989 and during the 1991 Gulf War.

History and Practical Design

The operational vehicle was prized for a combination of light weight and solid capability. It was powered by a 150hp V8 diesel, used a 4-wheel independent suspension system and featured 4WD for off-road performance. The Cargo Type had a substantial rear deck able to carry around 1,100kg or transport eight infantrymen.

Scale Kit Characteristics

At 1/48 scale, the model reproduces interior and external details with accuracy. Builders can choose open or closed door configurations and whether to include the rear cargo cover. The kit includes a driver figure in camouflage and three decal marking options to personalise the finished model.
