Tamiya 1/48 U.S. Howitzer Motor Carriage M8 - Tamiya 32604

The Tamiya 1/48 U.S. Howitzer Motor Carriage M8 kit reproduces a compact but important WWII artillery vehicle. It suits modellers seeking an accurate small-scale subject with authentic components and historical marking choices.

Service history and deployment

Based on the M5 Stuart chassis, the M8 carried a 75 mm M116 howitzer in the M7 mount. Production totalled around 1,800 units between late 1942 and early 1944, and the M8 provided mobile artillery support in several key campaigns.

Kit composition and modelling details

The kit presents interior fittings including a detailed main gun breech and is supplied with one-piece straight track sections for simpler assembly. Metal chassis weights are included to give the assembled model a realistic balance and feel.

Markings and presentation choices

Decal options cover the 106th Cavalry Reconnaissance Group in Germany and the 758th Tank Battalion in Italy. A full-body commander figure is supplied to improve display realism.

  • Scale - 1/48
  • Length - 92mm
  • Width - 48mm
  • Material - Plastic
  • Includes decals
  • Metal chassis weights included
  • Assembly type - Requires cement, paint and finishing supplies
The turret includes a realistic depiction of the main gun breech and related internal fittings, making it suitable for models displayed with hatches open.
Builders with some glue-and-paint experience will find the kit manageable. The straight track sections reduce complexity compared with individual track links.
Decals are provided for two historical units: the 106th Cavalry Reconnaissance Group and the 758th Tank Battalion, letting you choose a German or Italian theatre finish.
No extra accessories are required to assemble the basic model, but you will need cement, paints and finishing tools. Optional weathering products and figures can enhance a diorama display.
