Overview of the Late Jagdpanther

The Jagdpanther is a German World War II tank destroyer built on the Panther chassis, noted for combining a potent main armament with substantial armour. The late-production example carries the Pak43/3, L71 88mm gun inside a squared-off superstructure and is protected by 80mm frontal plates and 50mm sloped side armour. The mantlet, referred to as "Saukopf", is approximately 100mm thick and increases frontal protection.

Equipped with a Maybach V12 powerplant, the Jagdpanther weighed about 46 tons and offered an effective mix of mobility and protection. Manufacturing started in January 1944 at the MIAG works, and later examples incorporated improvements such as larger idler wheels and better crew heating. The vehicle first saw action in Normandy in June 1944, with 415 units produced by April 1945.

Specifications

  • Parts Included: Detailed decals and instructions
The kit focuses on late-war detail, replicating features like the larger idler wheels and the later superstructure profile to deliver a faithful scale representation.
Typical period finishes include dark yellow base coats and period-accurate camouflage. Acrylic or enamel scale colours work well; use thin layers and weathering washes for depth.
With careful assembly, neat seams and skilled painting, this 1/35 kit can reach display-standard quality suitable for shows and competitions.
Keep the model dust-free with occasional light brushing. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent paint fading, and handle delicate fittings with care when moving the model.
