The Jagdpanther is a German World War II tank destroyer built on the Panther chassis, noted for combining a potent main armament with substantial armour. The late-production example carries the Pak43/3, L71 88mm gun inside a squared-off superstructure and is protected by 80mm frontal plates and 50mm sloped side armour. The mantlet, referred to as "Saukopf", is approximately 100mm thick and increases frontal protection.
Equipped with a Maybach V12 powerplant, the Jagdpanther weighed about 46 tons and offered an effective mix of mobility and protection. Manufacturing started in January 1944 at the MIAG works, and later examples incorporated improvements such as larger idler wheels and better crew heating. The vehicle first saw action in Normandy in June 1944, with 415 units produced by April 1945.
