The M8 Greyhound was a light armoured car of World War II, commonly used for reconnaissance and escort work. Its development began in 1941 and Ford completed a prototype by June 1942. Fitted with a Hercules JXD engine producing 110 horsepower, it could reach a top speed of 88.5 km/h, offering excellent mobility for a wheeled armoured vehicle.
Although planned with armored support in mind, the M8 was reassigned to scouting roles because of its speed and handling. The design featured six wheels and armor varying from 19 mm to 32 mm. The open-topped turret was armed with a 12.7 mm M2 machine gun. The Greyhound saw action across Europe and the Pacific, with production numbers over 8,523 units between 1943 and 1945.
This Tamiya 1/35 kit recreates the Greyhound with finely detailed plastic parts that capture both the hull interior and exterior. Modellers will note accurate chassis and suspension components, plus a crew figure and period equipment. The kit includes waterslide decals and clear assembly instructions to aid construction.
