Transporting damaged heavy vehicles through rough and contested ground posed a serious wartime problem. The 18 Ton Heavy Half-Track "FAMO" together with the Sd.Ah.116 tank transporter provided a robust recovery option. Driven by the Maybach HL 108 12-cylinder engine rated at around 270hp, the FAMO could handle the demands of pulling and loading tanks such as the Pz.Kpfw.III and Pz.Kpfw.IV.
