The Panzer II was influential in the early phases of World War II. Developed under restrictions after World War I, it was based on the Panzer I hull but fitted with a 2 cm main gun for improved firepower. Production began in 1937 and by April 1940 a total of 1088 had been built. These tanks led operations in Poland and France and were later redeployed for reconnaissance as the war evolved.
Tamiya's 1/35 rendition captures the Ausf. A, B and C with faithful detailing. The kit supplies supplemental armour plates that can be fitted as on the original vehicle, separate moulded hatches and panels for variant accuracy, and single-piece track sections for simpler assembly. Included is a commander figure and three French Campaign marking options.
This kit sits well in period displays alongside models like the French Battle Tank B1 bis or the German 3 Ton 4x2 Cargo Truck. Supplementing the build with the German Infantry Set (French Campaign) will help populate battlefield scenes convincingly.
