The Tamiya 1/35 US Light Tank M5A1 kit models a compact but important WWII scout tank. Developed from the earlier M3 Stuart design, the M5A1 entered service in 1943 and served on reconnaissance duties across the Italian and North West European campaigns. The real machine used twin V8 engines and could reach around 58 km/h, reflecting its role as a fast light tank.
This is a reissue of kit number 35097 and reproduces the M5A1s characteristic features, including supplementary turret armour and the mixed welded and bolted hull sections. The kit also contains hedgerow cutters, a modification commonly fitted during Normandy operations.
The box includes four figures: one operating an anti-aircraft gun and a three-man mortar team. These figures provide options for narrative dioramas and add human scale to the model.
