The KV-1, accepted into Soviet service in 1939, was recognised for its heavy protection during World War II. The early 1941 model mounted the 76.2mm ZIS-5 gun and used a welded turret with armor up to 75mm, allowing it to withstand many early confrontations after the June 1941 invasion.
German formations sometimes used simple wooden or paper KV-1 models to aid identification and planning. Echoing that detail, this Tamiya kit includes a little replica for diorama use, giving modellers the option to recreate recognition drills or front-line command scenes.
