The Supermarine Spitfire remains an iconic WWII fighter thanks to its graceful lines and combat record. R.J. Mitchell's design was refined through successive marks to meet wartime needs. The Mk.XVIe is notable for its Packard-built Merlin 266 powerplant, bubble canopy and strengthened armament suited to ground attack tasks.
Mechanically similar to the Mk.IX, the Mk.XVIe added increased fuel capacity and heavier weapon options. These refinements extended operational range and adapted the type to a variety of late war missions across the continent.
Tamiya's 1/32 kit captures fine details with high quality moulding. Included are a detailed Merlin 266 engine, movable control surfaces and selectable undercarriage positions for static or flying displays. The cockpit detail and parts fit allow accurate presentation for collectors.
