The Nakajima A6M2-N, nicknamed Rufe, took the Mitsubishi Zero airframe and adapted it into a floatplane fighter. Tamiya's 1/48 kit preserves the aircraft's core lines and presents an accurate small-scale project for modellers interested in naval aviation history.
Designed to operate from water where shore-based runways were unavailable, the A6M2-N combined the Zero's agility with flotation gear. It first flew on December 8, 1941 and served in various Pacific operations as a stopgap seaplane fighter.
The kit reproduces the Rufe's prominent central float and armament layout, offering tight-fitting parts and a rewarding finish for those who spend time on painting and assembly. Completed builds display well on shelves or within themed collections.
