The Fw190A-3, designed at Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau under Kurt Tank, became a prominent German fighter in World War II. Intended as a partner to the Messerschmitt Bf109, it was powered by the dependable BMW 801 radial engine and was noted for its handling and combat role over the Channel in 1941.
Commissioned in 1941, the A-3 established itself against many Allied types of the period. With the BMW 801Dg delivering around 1,700hp, it maintained strong performance until newer Allied fighters arrived, and its armament of six machine guns provided a heavy short-range strike capability.
The 1/48 scale Tamiya kit faithfully renders the Fw190A-3s form with clean detail and fitting parts. The layout reproduces major features such as the engine cowling and gun positions, making it suitable for both museum-style displays and enhanced custom builds.
