The Fw190D-9 was introduced to address the Luftwaffe's need for improved high-altitude interception ability. Built on the Fw190A lineage, it featured a more powerful Jumo 213 engine rated at about 1,750hp and a lengthened fuselage to improve aerodynamic balance at altitude.
Entering service in September 1944, units including III/JG 54 "Grunherz" used the D-9 to escort and protect early Messerschmitt Me262 jet sorties. The Tamiya kit enables modellers to replicate these late-war traits with accurate external profiling.
This 1/48 Tamiya kit offers crisp mould lines and a faithful interpretation of the Fw190D-9 form. The parts allow modellers to replicate the elongated nose and canopy variations, and to apply authentic paint schemes and decals for museum-style displays.
